From Our 1999-2000 Season:

Who's Who in ``Brighton Beach Memoirs''

Pam Heller (Director) brings with her a variety of experiences in theater, radio and television. Most recently, she performed as M'Lynn in Steel Magnolias. She has appeared in area theaters in productions of Summer and Smoke, Prisoner of Second Avenue, Social Security, Marvin's Room, The Gingerbread Lady, Prelude to a Kiss, Murder in Mind and others. Pam directed productions for the Summit Playhouse and Kaleidoscope Youth Theater. She is delighted to be working with such a wonderfully talented and enthusiastic cast and production crew.

Nancy Boucher (Assistant Director) is delighted to be assisting Pam Heller and this fine cast in Brighton Beach Memoirs. Nancy has directed scores of plays at Lincoln School in Summit and has been Assistant Director at the Summit Playhouse for several productions, including Butterflies Are Free and Murder In Mind. She has often appeared before our audiences as Playhouse President, welcoming everyone to the theater and has had roles in A Doll's House and Charlotte's Web.

Scott Goldman (Eugene) is thrilled to be back at the Summit Playhouse after recently assisting the director of Narnia this past summer. He was also seen as Lurvy in the 1998 Kaleidoscope production of Charlotte's Web. Other credits performed at Union High School include: Sonny in Grease, the King in Once Upon a Mattress, as well as other pivotal roles in various other shows.

Barrett Phelar (Stanley) is happy to be in his first production with the Summit Playhouse. A recent graduate of the part-time program at the Atlantic Theatre Company in New York City, Barrett most recently appeared in the Chatham Players productions of the Fiddler on the Roof and A Christmas Carol. Barrett also appeared as Roy in Lone Star at the Cabaret Theatre in New Brunswick. He wishes everyone a fun night at the theater.

Sandra Rudnitzky (Kate) is happy to be making her debut appearance at the Summit Playhouse. She most recently was seen locally as Alice in The Secret Garden at Plays in the Park in Edison and as Shaindel in Fiddler on the Roof at the Union County Arts. Center.

Margaret Smith (Nora) graduated from Chatham High School last June and plans to attend Fordham University next fall. Recent credits include Adelaide in Guys and Dolls, Jo in Little Women, and Jean Brodie in the The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie. Meg attended The National High School Institute Theater Department at Northwestern University and is currently taking classes at TVI actor's studio in New York City. Meg also enjoys dancing, singing and playing the violin.

Joe Vierno (Jack) has appeared in many of the plays of Neil Simon throughout his 30-year community theater career. He has played leading roles in Come Blow Your Horn, Promises, Promises, Chapter Two and portrayed the seven Sid Caesar roles in Little Me. In addition, he has directed Barefoot in the Park, The Odd Couple and They're Playing Our Song. Recently, he appeared as Henry Higgins in My Fair Lady at Plays in the Park in Edison, and as Mervin Kant in The Sisters Rosensweig. Joe lives in Westfield with his wife, Nancy. They have two college graduates and are expecting a third in May.

Jean Walker (Blanche) is delighted to be making her Summit Playhouse debut. She has previously appeared in such local and regional plays as Joanne in Noel Coward's Present Laughter, Christine in The Bad Seed, and Mame in Auntie Mame. Most recently, she was the stepmother in Into the Woods, and a dancer and singer in Kiss Me Kate.


Production Staff

Nancy Gurley and Catherine Hawrusik head the production staff. Frank Hawrusik is stage manager. Roy Pancirov with Ted Duetz are chairing the construction of the set that was designed by Joe Hubcey. Rose Pancirov will be in charge of set decoration and Morrene Jacobs will be responsible for set painting. Bill Roome will bring light and sound to the production. Geraldine Zoccoli will gather and oversee props. Other chairpersons include: Caroline Hubley, costumes, Betty Klaus and Alice Kosowski , makeup, Ken Smith, photography and publicity, and Betty Kaus is also enlisting ushers.


In The Lounge

The series ``Guardian of Your Dreams'' is a display of handmade cast paper created by Susan Holford. The motivation for the series was the artist's reaction to recent events shattering so many people's dreams around the world. Ms. Holford is a professional artist who has been recognized for her artistic excellence in several media, including pottery, painting and paper sculpture. Her work has won numerous awards at state and regional shows. In addition, her work resides in many private collections in the United States and abroad. Ms Holford currently teaches art classes for children in her Cedar Lake studio.
