Who's Who in “The Heiress”

Debra Bernstein (Marian Almond) is thrilled to be appearing at the Summit Playhouse after recently returning to community theater. Her favorite roles have been the Actress in The Good Doctor, Sarah in Beau Jest and Roseanne in the 1999 production of Belles at the Baird Theater in South Orange. Debra attended the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City and studied Shakespearean acting at the American Repertory Theater in Cambridge, MA. She has appeared in television commercials and print advertising. Debra lives in Maplewood with her husband and three sons.

Glory S. Bowen (Catherine Sloper) worked as an assistant director with Kate Schlesinger on Our Town at the Bickford Theater. Glory received the Meritorious Achievement Award in Direction from the Kennedy Center A.C.T. Festival as well as many other awards. She has directed more than 25 productions, including Joseph and His Technicolor Dream Coat for Westfield's R.E. Players. When not directing or acting, Glory performs a wide range of technical theater jobs including that of a set dresser for productions that have starred Leslie Nielson, Robert Wagner, and Jill St. John. She thanks Kate, Chris, the producers, the cast, the designers, the crew, her family, and her friends for their support, patience and love.

William Campbell (Dr. Sloper) is happy to be working again with Kate Schlesinger and Christopher Moore, having appeared onstage with both of them in the Summit Playhouse production of 84, Charing Cross Road. Bill won a Bigbee Award for his appearance in the Playhouse production of Later Life, and is a Past President of the Playhouse.

Cynthia Epp (Maria) is delighted to appear in her first Summit Playhouse production. Most recently, Cynthia has performed with Seton Hall's Theater-in-the-Round and Chatham's Jersey Voices. Currently a teacher of college English, Cynthia also studies voice and continues to pursue her life-long love of dance. She thanks Gary and her family for their love and support.

Jean Kuras (Elizabeth Almond) is thrilled to be making her first appearance in Summit. She thinks the theater is beautiful and she praises the wonderful people she's met. Jean was last seen as Mrs. Holly in Carnival Productions' fall presentation of Suddenly Last Summer. Her favorite roles on other stages are Bananas in House of Blue Leaves, Madame Beaurevers in Shot in the Dark, and Elizabeth Lord in The Philadelphia Story.

Christopher Moore (Assistant Director, Arthur Townsend) is a newspaper editor and writer in New York City. He has appeared in numerous productions at the Playhouse, starting as a fourth-grader in "A Thousand Clowns." This is his third time as an assistant director, having previously assisted Betty Kaus on Lost In Yonkers and Kate Schlesinger on Don't Dress For Dinner. He lives in Summit.

Barrett Phelan (Morris Townsend) is proud to make his third appearance on the Summit stage. Audiences may remember him as Stanley in Brighton Beach Memoirs and as Bo in Bus Stop. Barrett wishes to thank God for the acting gift and this wonderful opportunity to share it, and he gives special thanks to Susan and Tina.

Marguerite Wurtz (Mrs. Montgomery) was most recently seen as Grace in our November production of Bus Stop. She has appeared in a number of other Playhouse productions, including Suzette, the cook, in Don't Dress For Dinner. Other recent roles on local stages include Miss Mackay in The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, Sister Woman Mae in Cat On a Hot Tin Roof and Joanne Remington in Ladies At the Alamo. She recently appeared at the Red Room in New York in a one act festival of original plays. She has trained at the HB Studio in New York and currently studies at The School for Film and Television.

Isabel Zeoli (Lavinia Penniman) is delighted to be performing at the Summit Playhouse for the first time. This fall she appeared in The Hardy Boys at The Growing Stage Theatre. Other performances there include Raggedy Ann and Andy and Treasure Island. This summer she played the role of Gwen in The Odd Couple at the Bickford Theater. Also at the Bickford, she played an Irish maid in Sly Fox. Isabel attended Emerson College and then moved to NYC, where she performed at the Manhattan Theatre Club and trained with Roy London.

Kate Schlesinger (Director) has been directing at the Summit Playhouse since 1986, starting with The Diary of Anne Frank. Other shows she has directed at The Playhouse include To Grandmother's House We Go, Prelude To A Kiss, Don't Dress for Dinner. Kate directed Prelude to a Kiss at 12 Miles West and Guys and Dolls, South Pacific and Joseph and His Technicolor Dream Coat at a girl's camp in Vermont. At the Bickford Theatre in Morristown, Kate directed On Golden Pond and Our Town, for which she was nominated Best Director in New Jersey by the Star Ledger in 1999. Kate is a graduate of Emerson College in Boston and holds a Master of Arts Degree from New York University.

Margie Bultman (Props) has been a member of the Playhouse for 15 years. She has enjoyed working in front of the stage as an assistant director and producer; backstage with props and make-up, and on stage as an actor. She has also served on the Board of Governors and various committees. What has she learned? Each and every position is an important piece of a quality theater production.

Maya Daniels (Set Decoration) is returning to the Playhouse after a short leave. When not assisting with hair, make-up, set decorating or acting (at the Playhouse). Maya can be seen/heard as a soprano with the Summit Chorale, as a voice-over artist with The Radio Repertory Company of America, and as a feature performer with Mysteries in Motion murder mystery dinner theater group. Maya is a wife and mother of two, as well as Member Services Director of the Berkeley Heights Branch of the Summit Area YMCA.

George Doherty (Stage Manager) has painted and hammered nails for various recent Playhouse productions, and has been stage manager for several First Night revues at the Playhouse. He lives in Chatham with his wife, Robbi.

Stephanie Fisk (Producer) has been an active member of the Playhouse for over 15 years. She has acted in plays such as Tribute, Play On and Light Up the Sky. Back stage she has produced, assisted directed and stage managed various shows through the years. She is happy to be working with PT once again!

Deryk Harrison (Set Construction) has worked on set construction for the Playhouse for the last six seasons. His favorite and technically most difficult set was last season's Enchanted April. As well as set construction he also is leading the on going efforts to renovate and update the Playhouse building and facilities.

Fran Harrison (Costume Designer) designed costumes for last spring's production of Enchanted April. for which she was also the Producer. She joined the Playhouse in 1993 after assisting Lyn Mackie with costumes for I Hate Hamlet. She is currently Vice President.

Betty Kaus (Make-up) has been President of the Playhouse three times. She has acted in and directed a number of plays, including The Dining Room, 84, Charing Cross Road, Foxfire, and Lettice and Lovage.

P. T. Kizzia (Producer) first worked at the Playhouse on props with Jean Henry for The Taming of the Shrew in 1961. She has worked at nearly every backstage job since. Some of her favorite shows have been 84 Charing Cross Road, Foxfire, The Diary of Anne Frank, Man of La Mancha, I Hate Hamlet, Nunsense, 1940's Radio Hour, and Lettice and Lovage.

Bill Roome (Lighting & Sound) has designed lighting for many of the Playhouse's recent productions, and is our Technical Director and Webmaster. He was last seen on stage in It's Only A Play Beau Jest. He lives in Berkeley Heights, and is owned by four cats, each of whom wants to be sole owner and get top billing.

Rhoda Roper (Set Design and Set Painting) has designed sets for the Playhouse since Foxfire in 1992. She has also designed for the Bickford, Savory Singers G & S Co., Stony Hill and Women's Cooperative Theaters. Her favorite sets include Later Life, I Hate Hamlet, Gypsy, and her all time favorite Enchanted April.
